Seven Seals #

Revelation 6:1-2

Introduction

Let's go back, just for a moment, and refresh where we have been. Revelation 1

Rev. 1:1 ¶ The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

Rev. 1:4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

Finances and Friends #

Pro 6:1-5

Intro.

Two very problematic areas for people are covered in the Bible here. Woman in chapter 5, and friends in chapter 6. Nothing has ruined a friendship faster than finances.

I. Snare of Suretyship (1-5) #

A. Defined #

In Bible times it would mean that you would be responsible for someone or something.

In the famine, when Israel sent his sons to Egypt for food, Judah says of Benjamin his brother:

Overwhelmed #

Psalm 61:1-2

Introduction

Overwhelmed means to overspread or crush beneath something violent and weighty, or to become faint, or feeble at the weight of something.

We sometimes use it in a positive way, overwhelmed with joy, but in the Bible, we find it's context is always negative.

Psa. 55:5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me.

Psa. 77:3 I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah.

Contrast of Believer & Unbeliever #

Psalm 62:1-12

Introduction

This Psalm gives us some great truths about man that the Psalmist points out to us. Many of the Psalms relate specifically to an enemy, a circumstance, this Psalm contains great truths about mankind in general. We find mankind’s position in contrast to that of a christian, someone who has firmly placed his faith in God alone for Salvation! That phrase is abundantly clear in this Psalm.

Mark 6:14

Standing for Righteousness #

Mark 6:14

Introduction

Bob Jone’s senior said, “Do right till the stars fall!” – We need people who are dedicated to doing right, living right!

Prov. 14:34 ¶ Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Thank the Lord for our Country, and the liberty we have. Our country is not perfect, but it is literally the best country in the World. It was founded on God’s Word! Our founding Father’s unashamedly quoted the Bible!

Rejoicing in the Wilderness #

Psalm 63:1-11

Introduction

The Title of the Psalm included most of the time in verse number 1, reads, “A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.” Psalm 3’s title reads, “A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.” Only time mentioned in Psalms.

David is the author of this Psalm. There were a few times that David was in the wilderness. While he was running from king Saul who was trying to kill him, is probably the most notable, and longest time David was in the wilderness. I do not believe that was the time that it was written, because verse 11 reads, “But the king shall rejoice in God” I believe that is written of himself, not of king Saul.

Hope for the Righteous #

Psalm 64:1-10

Introduction

Many of the Psalms are based on the affliction of good people. This Psalm is no different. There are many reasons, many times that righteous people suffer through no fault of their own!

Things the Lord hates! #

Proverbs 6:16-19

Intro. It is stated several times in the Bible that man has hated God! But no where in the Scripture will you find God hating man. You find quite the opposite!

“For [God so loved]{.underline} the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

A Psalm of Praise #

Psalm 65:1-13

Introduction

A Psalm is literally a song. We of course do not have the music score written down for us, so we have no way of knowing how it sounded when song. If you think about it, many of our hymns speak of hardship, and how God has blessed. We are literally going through the song book of the Jewish nation as complied and largely written by David.

Mark 6:30

R&R from the LORD #

Mark 6:30-33

Introduction

I. Rest (Mark 6:30-33) #

  • The disciples had just been busy traveling preaching in different villages as Jesus sent them out.
  • They were relaying to him all that happened.

A. Need of rest #

1. Work, whether physical, or mental wears you out! #

2. Our bodies require rest! #

B. Mandate of rest #

1. Exemplified by God #

Gen. 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
