What Kind of Person are you? #
Mark 2:1-12
Introduction
This morning I would direct our attention to the people in this passage. Jesus always interacted with people.
We relate with some people, and often we see ourself in other people?
I. The Seekers (Mark 2:2) "many were gathered together" #
A. Word Shared (1) "noised that he was in the house" #
1. The history - #
Mark 1:21 - he was in Capernaum before, that is where Peter's house is, where he cast the demon out of the man in the synagogue, and healed many people.
2. These were interested in Christ #
- They may have been interested in a show
- They may have been interested in healing
- They may have been interested in the message
B. The Word Preached (2) #
1. Importance of "the word" to Jesus! #
- We noted that People are important to Jesus, but the Word of God also is important!
2. Preaching #
II. The Sick (Mark 2:3) #
A. Palsy = paralysis #
1. Complete loss of mobility #
-
We have no idea how this man became sick. It cannot be stated he was sick because of sin
- However, sin, does incapacitate us!
2. This man couldn't save himself! #
“5\ Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” (Titus 3:5)
3. This man needed someone to bring him to Christ #
“23\ And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” (Luke 14:23)
- WE need reminded that the lost are not just going to flood into the church, and ask to be saved.
- Disciples were sent to the lost world!
B. Prognosis #
1. This man would die with his palsy #
2. Sinners will die in their sin... unless someone carries them to Christ. #
C. Prospective healing #
1. This man may have been skeptical #
- It is possible, this man came unwillingly, hoping things would change
2. This man may have heard of Christ's healing #
3. This man was brought to be changed. #
III. The Servants (Mark 2:3) "borne of four" #
- There are great lessons to be learned here of these servants!
A. Cooperative effort "four" #
1. One man couldn't bring this person to Christ! #
“6\ I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 7\ So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. 8\ Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. 9\ For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” (1 Cor 3:6–9)
2. Laborers #
- Sod breakers, Seed Planters, Waterers, Harvesters
“36\ But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37\ Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38\ Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” (Matthew 9:36–38)
3. Be involved - Pray, pass out tracts, talk to people, bring them to church, lead them to the Lord! - That is the work of the church! #
B. Compassionate effort #
- Investment comes as a result of care and compassion!
C. Confident, Certain (v4-5) - didn't give up, "their faith" (5) they believed! #
IV. The Saviour (Mark 2:5) #
- Last time he preached in the synagogue, and healed at the house... he is now preaching at the house, and healing hasn't been mentioned.
A. Attentive of the Servants (v5) (faith & labor) #
“9\ For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.” (2 Chro 16:9)
B. Attends to the sick (v11) #
- The scribes and Pharisees believed all sickness was a result of sin.… Jesus makes it clear, "sins be forgiven"
1. Jesus forgives! #
“9\ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
2. Healed & forgiven (v12) #
C. Asserts Authority over sin (v10) #
- To the dismay of the scribes and Pharisees!
V. The Skeptical Scribes (Mark 2:6) #
- There are always skeptics
A. They were in the crowd #
- They came to observe, and find error
B. They are against God (not the servants). #
- At times they harassed the saved, and family, or servants... but they are against God
