Revelation 5 #
Revelation 5:1-4
I. Sealed Book (1-4) #
A. Book - #
1. Daniel saw this scene. (Dan 7:9-10, 13-14) #
Dan. 7:9 ¶ I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool: his throne was like the fiery flame, and his wheels as burning fire. 10 A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.
2. According to Dan 7:13-14 - this scroll, book, gives right to rule after. #
B. Bound - (sealed) #
1. Worthiness (2-3) #
-
No one was worthy! - Comprehensive (3)
- To open, and execute the Book of God!
- heaven - No one (not angels, no redeemed man)
- earth - no one
Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no not one.
-
- under the earth, no one... This is a reference to hell, obviously no one is worthy there.
- Only three locations, Heaven, Earth, Hell - no purgatory
2. Book, written by God. #
-
-
- The seals of this book are the judgements of God, it is too much for man!
- Isaiah saw this too:
-
Is. 29:11 And the vision of all is become unto you as the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: 12 And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned.
C. Behold the Lion! #
- While no man could, there is one that can!
- With God all things are possible.
Gen. 49:9 Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? 10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.
II. Saviour (5-8) #
A. Lion #
Prov. 30:30 A lion which is strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
1. Strength - The Lion stands for strength #
- A Lion is an overcomer. The first of overcomers, who makes us overcomers!
1John 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
2. Scepter - Judah - Kingly! #
- He is seen in his strength, and in his Royalty!
B. Lamb #
1. Sacrificial - "as it had been slain" - past tense #
- There were obvious and apparent scars, that show he is the one that was on the cross!
Is. 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
- John the Baptist said:
John 1:29 ¶ ...Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
2. Perfect lamb (6) #
- Jesus is called the Lamb of God, 28 x's in Rev... Favorite title.
-
7 horns = power (Omnipotent)
-
7 eyes = knowing (seeing) (Omniscience)
-
7 Spirits of God = Presence (Omnipresence)
-
(777) - Seven is the number of completion, x 3... like the holiness
- I'm not real big on numerology, some people go over board with it, but it is very clear here!
3. Worthy Lamb - #
- He takes the book, because He is worthy
- He is ready to fulfill, and execute the entire judgement of God.
- Peter & other disciples saw this at the mount of Transfiguration:
2Pet. 1:17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
III. Singing (8-14) #
A. Prostrate (8) before the LION #
- We saw this last time, but it was because He is the creator
- We see it now, because He is the King, (Lion of the tribe of Judah)
B. Praising (9-10) LAMB #
- Singing a new song!
- Redemption through the LAMB! (9)
- Redeemed out of every Land!
- Redeemed to lofty places!
C. Proclaiming (11-13) LORD! #
1. Multitudes! (11) #
2. Proclaiming His worthiness (12) #
3. Even those below the earth (hell) (13) #
Phil. 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
