Mother of Moses #

Exodus 2:1-10

Introduction

Jochebed is not a prominent name in the Bible. Matter of fact, it is probably that many don’t even recognize the name. However the christian world at large today would know her son. Moses! The man who led the Israelites out of bondage from Egypt. The man who led the Israelites through the desert for 40 years! Moses, a mighty leader for 40 years!

Ex. 6:20 And Amram took him Jochebed his father’s sister to wife; and she bare him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and seven years.

Jochebed is a great example in the Bible for mothers. She is not named in our text, and actually she isn’t mentioned frequently in the Scriptures. However, her testimony sticks out as a great mother. We are going to note a few things about her from our text.

A Mother’s Love

by Helen Steiner Rice

A Mother's love is something

that no on can explain,

It is made of deep devotion

and of sacrifice and pain,

It is endless and unselfish

and enduring come what may

For nothing can destroy it

or take that love away . . .

It is patient and forgiving

when all others are forsaking,

And it never fails or falters

even though the heart is breaking . . .

It believes beyond believing

when the world around condemns,

And it glows with all the beauty

of the rarest, brightest gems . . .

It is far beyond defining,

it defies all explanation,

And it still remains a secret

like the mysteries of creation . . .

A many splendoured miracle

man cannot understand

And another wondrous evidence

of God's tender guiding hand.

B. She put him in a boat #

2. Her daughter stayed to observe. #

C. She was paid to raise him! #

III. Her Award from God #

A. Moses Chose godly path #

Heb. 11:24-27, 24 By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; 25 Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; 26 Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward. 27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

B. Raise children for the Lord! #
