Marching to Victory #

Psalm 68:1-3

Introduction

We have a lengthy Psalm before us, in which we will not be able to touch every verse of it, much less every phrase. It is a full Psalm, with many messages that could be brought from it. We will limit ourselves to one simple message from the Psalm as we trek on through the forest of the Psalms.

In the Treasury of David, Spurgeon describes the Psalm as, “The Psalm is at once surpassingly excellent and difficult. Its darkness in some stanzas is utterly impenetrable.”

It is believed the Psalm goes with the moving of the Ark of the Covenant.

I. Moving of God (1-3) #

A. Ark of God was moved #

1. This passage resembles the time when Moses moved the Ark of the Covenant #

Numbers 10:35 And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, LORD, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.

2. Moving with the presence of God #

B. Enemies flee! #

1. Wickedness cannot stand before God! #

Is. 41:10 ¶ Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Take the name of Jesus with you

Child of sorrow and of woe

It will joy and comfort give you

As protection ev’rywhere

If temptations ‘round you gather,

Breathe that holy name in prayer!

Ephesians 4:8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)
