Parents and the Home #

Pro 6:20-35

I. Parental Concern (Pro 6:20-23) #

Parents

It takes a Father and Mother to make a home!

Break down in society, breakdown of the home.

The ugly truth about divorce, it breaks a home!

I know we have divorced people in here. Let me try to help those who don’t bare those scars for a moment.

A. Lock - bind, tie (21) #

  1. These are to be bound in our heart!

    a) “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalms 119:11)

    a) When we apply the truths from the Word of God to our heart, it will keep us from sin!

B. Life Application (22) #

Look at what the Word will do for you!

  1. Direction - “goest, it shall lead thee”

    a) Unsaved have no direction, living for things.

  2. Rest - “sleepest, it shall keep thee”

    a) Unsaved have no rest, they are fretting about the things!

  3. Company -“awakest, it shall talk with thee”

    a) Loneliness is a real issue.

    b) A christian, is NEVER ALONE!

    (1) "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be
        content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I
        will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Hebrews 13:5)
    

C. Light of the Word (23) #

  1. “NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalms 119:105)

    a) Light to guide us through the path of life, by the narrow way!

  2. “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.” (Psalms 119:130)

    a) Helps us understand when things aren’t always clear!

    Children are the responsibility of the parents!
    
    Having them in church is a good start! However it doesn't negate
    our responsibility to talk with our children, reinforce what is
    taught at church!
    
    Don't think that is the end of it!
    

II. Purpose of Commands (Pro 6:24-29) #

A. Listening to lies (24) #

  1. Don’t believe the flattery!

  2. People will tell you what you want to hear, it is manipulation!

  3. People will lie to you to get what they want!

B. Looking with lust (25) #

  1. “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.” (Matt 5:28)

  2. “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.” (1 John 2:16)

  1. Guard your eyes!

C. Lessons to learn (26-27) #

  1. Hunted (26)

    a) This goes both ways!

  2. Hurt (27-29)

    a) Playing with fire is never a good idea! - Burnt!

    b) Considering sexual sin is never a good idea! - Hurt!

III. Product of Conceit (Pro 6:30-35) #

  • Conceit - excessive pride in oneself

    • No one is going to tell me what to do.

    • I know what is best for my life! Ignoring of your parents, pastors, and God’s instruction!

A. Foolish! (30-33) #

  1. He gives an illustration, when someone steals because they are hungry, that is one thing, not despised.

  2. Adulterer, fornicator, is a fool!

    a) Refuses to follow instruction!

    b) Refuses to acknowledge God!

    c) Destroys

B. Scar (33) #

  1. Something that will stick with you for the rest of your life!

  2. The guilt, shame, it is a consequence that will hang over you!

C. Fear - (34-35) #

1. Jealousy - How many men have died over a jealousy dispute about a woman! #
