Romans 1:8

Paul’s Burden #

Romans 1:8-16

Introduction

In these few verses, we can clearly see Paul’s heart. Paul was a courageous, bold preacher. He was not afraid to speak the truth, and suffer the consequences. At the same time, he was not rude, brawler, or contentious. There is a difference. We can see his sincere hearts desire in these verses.

I. Paul’s Impression (8) #

A. Faith is Salvation #

Eph. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

1. Salvation cannot be obtained by works #

2. It is commonly thought among christians that somehow works, bring them in favor with God after Salvation. #

B. Faith is Sincerity - Living by faith #

1. Ministry and good works! #

Eph. 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

2. After salvation, there should be ‘good works’ #

Matt. 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

C. Faith is Spoken of #

II. Paul’s Interest – (9-13) #

A. Education (11) “impart” #

1. Impart = To communicate the knowledge of something #

  • “Your walk talks, and your talk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks.”

2. Great Commission #

Matt. 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

B. Establishment (11) #

1. Established – fixed firmly, founded #

C. Encouragement (12-13) #

III. Paul’s Indebtedness (14-16) #

A. Preparedness (15) “ready” #

1. Are you ready? #

  • The maniac in Mark 5 that was saved, Jesus said,

“Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee.” (Mk 5:19b)

B. Public Proclamation “unashamed” (16) #

C. Power (16) #

1. The power doesn’t come from you marvelous ability to communicate #

2. The power doesn’t come from your resounding personality #

3. The power is in the simple message that Jesus Christ came to the earth, became man, God in the flesh (sinless), died on the cross, was buried and rose again. That is the message that changes lives. #
