Psalm 14
Introduction
You may not notice, but this Psalm is given to us twice. It is recorded in almost exactness to Psalm 53.
This is more of a Psalm that contemplates the wickedness of evil people, warns of the evil works, and ends in a cry for salvation!
Col. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Admonish – 1. to warn or notify of a fault; to reprove with mildness. 2. Counsel against wrong practices; to caution or advise. 3. To Instruct or direct. Not all songs are praise, some are admonishment.
I. Corruption (1-3) – Quoted in Romans 3:10-12 #
A. Heart #
i.Fool – In Scripture, fool is often used for a wicked or depraved person; one who acts contrary to sound wisdom in his moral deportment; one who follows his own inclinations, who prefers trifling and temporary pleasures to the service of God and eternal happiness. #
ii.“in his heart” - The heart is what guides our life… #
Prov. 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
B. Declaration – “there is no God” #
i.Creation declares there is a God! #
Psa. 19:1 ¶ The heavens declare the glory of God;
ii.Your belief doesn’t change reality. #
Spurgeon says:
“…denying the existence of fire does not prevent its burning a man who is in it, so doubting the existence of God will not stop the Judge of all the earth from destroying the rebel who breaks his laws” Treasury of David
C. Works (1) “abominable works” 3 – “become filthy” #

D. Witness – (2) – God’s eyes are NOT put out! #
II. Conduct (4-6) #
A. Destruction (4) “who eat up my people as they eat bread” #
1John 3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.
John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
B. Departure (4) “call not upon the LORD.” #
C. Dread (5) “There were they in great fear:” #
Psa. 53:5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
D. Despise (6) “shamed the counsel of the poor” #
III.Call or Prayer (7) #
A. Concern “Oh that the salvation of Israel” #
B. Cry[ “come” ] #
i.This is not a new cry… #
Gen. 49:18 I have waited for thy salvation, O LORD. Is. 8:17 And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
