The King of Kings #

Psalm 47:1-9

Introduction

The theme of this Psalm is clearly that God is the LORD God, Jehovah, King of Kings. There is no higher God than the God we serve. This becomes evident throughout this Psalm.

I. His Position (1-2) #

A. Royalty - Kingly #

1. Great King (2b) #

2. Our King (6b) #

3. King of all the earth (7a) #

1Tim. 6:14 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: 15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Rev. 17:14 ¶ These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

B. Reverence – (2) “terrible” #

vs 2 – terrible – Adapted or likely to excite terror, awe, or dread; formidable.

  • An awesome and yet fearful thing to be in the presence of almighty God!

C. Righteousness (8) #

1. Rules over heathen – they will recognize God=King #

2. Rules in HOLINESS! - God is righteous! #

D. Recognition (9) #

  • This is prophetic → the Millennial Reign of Christ, Israel gathered with Christ! (4, 9)

II. His Praise (6) #

2. Singing with UNDERSTANDING (7) #

C. Crowd for the Praise #

1. “all ye people” (1) #

III. His Power (1-2) #

1. Triumph (1) - A King just by his office, must be powerful, powerful enough to triumph over nations, and keep people safe. #

2. Terrible (2) - We already discussed the meaning behind that, but it also carries with it, a great deal of power! No one fears someone who is weak. God is awesome because of his Power! #

A. Prophecy in His Power (3-4) #

2. “subdue” – there is coming a time when God will bring all things into absolute and complete subjection. #

Phil. 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

3. Israel will be considered in that time! (4) #

B. The Place (7) #

1. “all the earth” – There is a time, when God will bring the entire world into subjection under Him. #
