Different Perspectives #

Psalm 53

Introduction

Psalm 14 is very similar to this Psalm. Clearly, God thought we needed to look at this Psalm twice, and included it twice in the book. It is a somber Psalm.

Have you ever looked at something and tried to point it out to someone else, and they cannot see it, because they are not looking at it from the right angle? They have to move to actually see what you are looking at.

Sometimes because of a different location, we cannot see something someone else can. Sometimes because of our upbringing, culture, or life, we also cannot see things other people can. WE all have different perspectives. In the Psalm tonight, we will take a look at three different perspecives.

I. Perspective of the Fool (1) #

A. Dismissal of God “Fool hath said in his heart” #

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

Jer. 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

B. Desire of man “corrupt are they” #

Psalm 10:3-13

1. No Authority (6) “said in his heart, I shall not be moved” #

2. *No Accountability *(11) “said in his heart, God hath forgotten” #

3. *No Affliction *(13) “said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.” #

C. Deeds “done abominable iniquity” #

1. Because of he dismisses God, desires selfishly…. #

2. He will do wickedness! #

II. Perspective of God (2-5) #

A. Desire of God (2) #

1. See if any did understand! #

Proverbs 2:1-5

2. See if any seek God! #

Matt. 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

B. Darkness of man (3) (Noah’s day) #

John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

C. Denseness of man (4) #

1. No knowledge? Are they stupid? Do they not learn? #

2. They destroy good people #

3. They do not call on God! #

D. Despise of God (5) #

  • Despise – to look down upon with disfavor or contempt; to contemn; to scorn

1. Fear when it was not fearful (GUILT) #

2. Punishment – sin must be punished! #

III. Perspective of the Psalmist (6) #

A. Desire for a Savior! “Oh that the salvation of Israel were come” #

1. Jesus had not come… the Psalmist desired a Savior #

2. The lost need a Savior… #

B. Joy from a Savior #

1. Saved people find Joy in the Savior! #

Gal. 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
