The King #

Psalm 93

Introduction

We have a great description of the King in this Psalm. This Psalm is not given a title, and we have no idea who the writer was. However, it matters not because it’s subject is of eternal value! We are far better knowing the King than the penman.

So it is with great interest we learn about our God tonight! There are truths written here, that we must focus on, and learn.

I. King’s Apparel (1) #

  • Clothing tells a lot about who you are, and how you carry yourself!
  • Man is to be clothed!

Gen. 3:21 ¶ Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

    • Their little skimpy leaf garments were not enough!
  • Garments define people!

Ex. 28:1 ¶ And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons. 2 And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. 3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office. 4 And these are the garments which they shall make; …

  • Garments define gender

Deut. 22:5 ¶ The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

  • Garments of a harlot (Pro 7:10), Garments of a bride, Garments of mourning (sorrow) & widow (Gen 38:14), Garments of Kings, Garments of soldiers, Garments of servants, Garments of modesty…
  • What you wear is important and makes a statement about you!

A. Clothed with Majesty #

  • Majesty – dignity and authority of sovereign power; quality or state which inspires awe or reverence; grandeur; exalted

1. His high view #

Is. 6:1 ¶ In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. 2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. 3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

2. Our lowly view of self #

Is. 6:5 ¶ Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.

A. Ancient Kingdom “established of old” #

1. God was the king when the earth was established! #

Spurgeon said, “Atheism is the mother of anarchy; the reigning power of God exhibited in true religion is the only security for the human commonwealth. A belief in God is the foundation and cornerstone of a well ordered state.”

Psa. 14:1 ¶ The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

B. Everlasting Kingdom “from everlasting” #

1. Kingdoms are marked from their beginning #

2. Many kingdoms have come and gone, but God’s is forever #
