Glimpse of Heaven #

Revelation 4:2-11

Introduction

Last week we saw the Rapture, Throne, and the Lord sits on the throne. We noted the Priestly heritage, the Promise in the rainbow, and the Praise worthiness that the emerald represents.

I. The Travel (Rev 4:1) #

A. Door (Jesus) #

John 10:7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

II. The Throne (Rev 4:2-7) #

A. Description (4, 6) #

1. Christ on the Throne (3) #

2. Calling of elder (as leader) (4) #

  • NT elder = pastor, or in Gospels, Sanhedrin
  • OT elder = older leader of the family, or leader of

3. Count - Twenty four (4) #

  • It is suggested that 12 of these would represent the 12 tribes of Israel, and 12 would represent the apostles of the church age.
  • These is a passage that talks about 24 priests being set as governors, and representatives of their family in 1 Chronicles 24. Where they would represent the family.

4. Chairs (4) #

  • seated - rest, honour
  • proximity to the throne - closeness to God

5. Clothes - white (4) #

  • Color - white

Is. 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

  • Covering -
  • The NT idea, is to 'put off' the old, and to 'put on the new', it represents the idea of a change

6. Crowns of Gold - (4) #

  • There are several crowns that a believer can receive. One is for loving his appearing.

2Tim. 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

  • Given, "at that day". Perhaps Paul is referring to the rapture.

  • Seem to be between the throne and the elders

    • four = from North, east, south, west, all sides. Every tongue, tribe and nation will glorify God.
    • lion = strength, calf (ox) = steadfast, man = sagacity, eagle = switness
    • full of eyes = witnesses from all through time
  • These are seraphims – we will see later.

B. Decree from the Throne (5) #

III. The Tribute (4:8-11) #

A. Seraphims #

1. Holy “Holy, Holy, Holy” (8) #

    • Isaiah 6:1-3
    • The similarities (six wings), and same words,
  • Holiness of God is very clearly expressed!
  • Judgement of God is just!

2. Almighty (8) #

  • God’s power, is inexhaustible!

    • We tire, we get worn out, we need a break!
    • God power, is without end.

3. Eternal “which was, and is and is to come” (8) #

  • May we NEVER forget, worldly things in this life is temporal, but God, is eternal!
  • God always has been, is today, and always will be!

B. Elders (10) #

1. “Fall down before him” #

  • There is something to be said for kneeling, and falling before God in worship

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9–11)
