Psalm 9

Introduction

There are two major parts to this Psalm, verses 1-10, and 11-20. It is a Psalm of David. We don’t know when it was written, or for what circumstance. It could fit in many circumstances, some of the betters guesses, it was written several years after David had slain Goliath. We are not certain of this, but it is likely.

I. Personal Praise (1-2) #

A. Willingly #

i.Willingly praise (1) “I will praise thee” #

  • Praise by giving testimony for what God is doing in your life.
    • It doesn’t have to be a drastic huge thing, but something that shows God is active, and working

ii.Willingly be glad (2) “I will be glad and rejoice” #

  • When you praise the Lord, it makes you glad!
  • It is extremely difficult to be thankful, and down...

iii.Willingly sing (2) “I will sing praise” #

Psa. 40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Majestic Praise #

Psalm 104:1-5

Introduction While our last Psalm was a Praise to the Lord for his Mercy, the entirety of this Psalm is a Praise to the Lord for his Majesty in creation! There are a lot of similarities in style between this Psalm and Psalm 103. They build to a great closing! These are powerful Psalms that are focused primarily on God! What a great focus! I cannot think of a greater place to focus our attention! • While I was studying, I think I stumbled across a golden nugget in the verse 5:

Majestic Work of God #

Psalm 111

Introduction

This is a phenomenal Psalm that renders great praise to the LORD. The psalmist manages to capture the great attribute of God’s eternality, and brings to light the work of the Lord. It is quite an inspiring Psalm.

The Psalm starts out with Praise to the LORD. This is certainly appropriate for what is about to be displayed about God.

Seeking Help #

Psalm 119:73-75

Introduction

This section is JOD, which if you look at the Hebrew letter in your Bible, it is the smallest letter… Just like it says in Matthew 5:18

Matthew 5:18 — For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

David is up on the mountain tops, or down in valleys with little in between. We find him in this portion, down in the valley. With troubles, and hardships. Each time we see David in a valley, he comes out rejoicing. We find God, and the Word of God to always be his source of help, and strength. A great lesson for us.

Miscellaneous Thoughts #

Proverbs 20:12, 20, 30

Introduction

Tonight is more of a shotgun message, it will hit all over the place instead of just hitting one theme. These are the last three verses that I was not able to fit into a category in this chapter. From Proverbs 10 on, we have many sayings that are not necessarily themed, or go together. For sake of thought and continuity, I have been going through each chapter, and connecting the dots between the thoughts that are covered to give us a uniform way to look at them, and cover topics.
