Wisdom Portrayed as God #
Proverbs 8:22-36
Intro.
In the beginning of Chap 8, we see Wisdom’s Plea, then we see Wisdom’s Presentation, today we will look at Wisdom portrayed as God
I. Wisdom’s Infinity (22-29) #
A. Constancy of God/Wisdom (22-26) #
Possessed of the Lord!
Infinite, without Beginning, and end!
Difficult grasp no beginning
B. Creation of God/Wisdom (27-29) #
Wisdom Witnessed Creation
Witnessing how something is done, is of great value!
Wisdom was witness to the creation, and ever aspect of creation!
We Observe God’s Creation
God didn’t just put the earth, plants, animals, universe out there.
God created everything with order!
C. Control of God/! (28-29) #
Greatness to keep everything going!
“he strengthened the fountains of the deep”
“gave to the sea his decree” - waters contained
“appointed the foundation” - clearly God is holding things together!
We don’t have to worry about the sun burning out, climate change and global warming… it is all in God’s control!
God is in control of this universe! I don’t worry about life on Mars, living in space or aliens… God has it all under control!
The more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know!
Observing God’s control… incredible
II. Wisdom’s Interest (31-32) Interest #
A. To delight in man (31) #
Delight - that which gives great pleasure;
In his area “habitable part”
God takes pleasure in his creation living and enjoying life
He takes pleasure in their intelligence, creativity,
Animals have not developed society, or invented better forms of travel… animals, cannot talk, just continue.
God delights in man
God doesn’t delight in sin, matter of fact, the sin of man, grieves God!
a) “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” (Genesis 6:5–6)
However those that seek him,
(1) "I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall
find me." (Proverbs 8:17)
Those who take an interest in God, those who are concerned with
what God wants, He loves them.
B. To Bless man (32) #
Plan to save man!
God’s plan from the beginning, was ‘redeem’ man.
Buy back man from his Sin!
God came to Adam in the garden, and walked with Him.
Keep HIS ways!
God Blessing is a direct result of following/obeying.
You must read it to know what it says.
You must have it in mind, and heart to obey it!
If you forget it, you won’t obey it.
If you aren’t concerned about it, you won’t obey it.
III. Wisdom’s Instruction (33-35) #
A. Cry (33) “hear” #
1. Wisdom’s Cry #
a) “Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths.” (Proverbs 8:1–2)
You cannot blame God, Wisdom cries out everywhere!
Those who have never heard?
I have heard of native people, who have observed nature, realized
there must be a God. They prayed, and God sent.
Our confession - [emptiness]{.underline}
You cannot come with a full cup, and get wisdom! You must come
empty, ready to be filled!
You must have an empty receptacle
B. Choice (33) “be wise, and refuse it not.” #
You must choose!
a) “And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24:15)
b) “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his [delight]{.underline} is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.” (Psalms 1:1–2)
c) “[Delight]{.underline} thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. [Commit]{.underline} thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.” (Psalms 37:4–5)
People are not committed!
C. Consequence (35) #
Death, destruction etc.! (36)
Blessing (34)
Watching, it is not a single one time choice, it is a constant decision, to continue daily..
Waiting! - Patience!
Life (35)
Real life, joyous, long, eternal life!
Favour of the Lord (35)
