The Millennial Reign & Judgement #

Revelation 20:1-3

Introduction

The Millennial reign of Jesus Christ, is a literal 1000 year reign of Jesus on the Earth! The Old Testament foretells of this, and this is literally what the Jews expected when Jesus came the first time. They didn't understand his coming as a lowly Lamb of God to take away the sins of the World.

I. The Restricting of Satan (Rev 20:1-3) #

A. Angel - Authority #

1. The key - (authority) #

  • The keys are kept by Jesus Christ himself!

Rev. 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

  • I do not believe this angel is Jesus, but rather, the key was given for this specific task.

2. Bottomless pit #

  • Last week, I mentioned the untold, uncounted multitudes that are in heaven, notice this pit, is bottomless… While we believe the population now is 8 billion, over the course of 6,000 years of existence, how many people? Of those people, how many unsaved?

B. Arrest #

1. Devil #

  • Ohio’s most wanted criminal, America’s Most Wanted, This is the World’s Most Wanted! He has been loose and roaming for 6,000 years! (6 days to God)
  • Wickedness influences contained! (Man will still have a sin nature.

C. Chained up! (3) #

1. Contained! “shut him up” “set a seal upon him” #

  • As intelligent, powerful, and slick as he is, he will not be slipping out of this prison

2. No more deception! “deceived the nations no more” #

3. Later, loosed. #

II. The Reign of Christ (Rev 20:4-6) #

A. Time - literal 1,000 year reign (4) #

  • Thousand years – Rev 20:2-7 – There is a substantial point here… 1000 years!

1. Christ MUST come before he Reigns (pre-millennium) (Great battle Rev 19) #

  • A common thought used to be, post-millennium (Christ comes after 1000 year reign, and the church ushers in the millennium) - wrong
  • There is also a-millennium those who reject that it is a literal 1000 year reign. - they spiritualize Rev.

2. Devil bound (2, 3, 7) #

3. Christ reigns (4, 6) #

B. Thrones (4) #

1. Saved people in the church age "and they sat upon them" - undefined phrase that allows for us. #

Rev. 5:10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

  • In context, this is prior to the Tribulation saints, it is the raptured saints from the church age.

2. Tribulation Saints (very clear from context) #

C. First resurrection (5) #

  • 1 Cor 15:20-23 set's forth an order, of a parade. We see it float by float, God sees it as one thing.

1. Christ's Resurrection some rose (Matt 27:51-53) #

2. Church age saints resurrected (1 Thess 4, 1 Cor 15) #

3. Foretold resurrection- OT Saints (Dan 12:1-4, 2*) #

4. Clearly the Tribulations Saints will be resurrected #

III. The Revolt of Satan (Revelation 20:7-10) #

A. Freeing of Satan (7) #

B. Forming of Rebellion (8) #

1. Obviously there are people who do not like the heavy handed reign of Jesus Christ on the earth. #

2. Again, getting ready for a battle! #

C. Fire from Heaven (9) #

  • The first battle Satan leads against God, is quickly cast down by the Word of God.
  • This battle, fire from God, devours them.

D. Final Sentencing of Satan (10) #

IV. The Retribution from God (Rev 20:11-15) #

A. Throne of Judgement (11) #

  • Lost people flee from the face of God!

B. All people judged (12) #

C. Only relief from hell, is to stand before the judge for condemnation (13) #

D. Second death (14) #

E. Book of Life (15) #
