Victory #
Psalm 18:1-6
Introduction
This is a lengthy Psalm. There are only 3 Psalms longer than this one. Psalm 78, 89, 119, This is a very victorious Psalm! Reading it, is of great help and strength to the believer. There are prophetic references to Jesus in this Psalm as well. We will not look at them simply for sake of time. Some of them are very clear. However, I want us to see the victory that David had through God! There are six things that I want us to notice in this lengthy Psalm tonight.
I. Value of God (1-3) #
A. Description (2) #
i.Rock – stability, strength, unchanging, dependable! #
ii.Fortress – blessed hiding place, safety, rest #
iii.Deliverer – someone who comes to your rescue to save you #
iv.God - #
v.Strength – power #
vi.Buckler – shield, or piece of defensive armor #
vii.Horn of my Salvation – symbolic of strength #
- Only used three times in Scripture, 2 Sam 22:3, Psa 18:2, Lu 1:69
“And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:” (Luke 1:69–70)
viii.High tower – place of safety #
B. Developed an admiration (3)[ “worthy to be praised”] #
II. Vulnerability of Man (4-6) #
A. David’s Difficulty (4) [David was often in trouble!] #
- Vs 5 is a prophetic reference to Jesus
B. Driven to God! (6) #
III.Vitality of God (7-15) #

B. Delivered me (17) – Delivered from prison/trap #
V. Virtue Rewarded (20-28) #
A. Direct your path by His Word (20-22) #
i.The key is verse 22, keep the Word of God before you!!! #
“NUN. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
B. Duty towards God (25-26) #
i.NT Principle #
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” (James 4:8)
ii.Many Christians want a ‘pass’ on sin, and ‘great relationship with God’. Doesn’t work that way! #
VI. Validate God’s Works! (29-50) #
- Validate – affirm, give proof, show to be true!
