Righteousness #
Romans 10:1-11
Intro.
Imagine yourself a Jew, having been given the law, having been God’s people your whole life! Knowing you are to offer sacrifices, and to go to the Temple. Knowing the laws and books of the Bible that had been given to your people to hold on to. Knowing that God for literally thousands of years had worked through your people. Granted it had been a couple hundred years since a prophet actually had a vision, or prophetic Word from the Lord, but still. Then, the Messiah comes, only, the religious jewish leaders rejected him. What do you do? Jesus, was he really the Messiah? Many of the common people had no problem seeing it, but many of the very religious devout jews greatly struggled with how this fit the passages they had spent their life reading. Many struggled understanding how this now worked, it was a completely NEW way!
That is why Paul is taking so much time, and explaining this so clearly. It was necessary for many of the people to understand exactly how Salvation, Justification, Faith, and righteousness now worked. The word righteousness shows up 7 times in this chapter.
righteousness - Righteousness, as used in Scripture and theology, in which it chiefly occurs, is nearly equivalent to holiness, comprehending holy principles and affections of heart, and conformity of life to the divine law. - Webster 1913
