Psalm 15:1-5

I. Residence with the LORD (1) #

A. Who is addressed? #

B. What? #

i.Abide – rest, dwell, remain stay #

ii.Dwell – abide as a permanent resident, inhabit, continue. #

i.Heaven; we often comment on the splendors of it. #

ii.Tabernacle – holy of holies #

iii.Holy Hill – #

  • The City of David, is located just south of Jerusalem, and lies lower than Mount Moriah… I believe that is what David referred to as the Holy Hill,

2Chr. 3:1 ¶ Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD at Jerusalem in mount Moriah, where the LORD appeared unto David his father, in the place that David had prepared in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.

iv.These were the dwelling place of God in the OT! #

D. Who??? #

II.Requirement #

A. Righteousness within (Personal) (2) #

  • These are things you must work on in a personal area of your life!

i.Walketh – Direction in life #

Gen. 17:1 ¶ And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

ii.Worketh - #

  • Righteousness doesn’t come by accident, you must work at it! We are sinners by default, default action, is sin!

iii.Words are truthful – Our actions are tied to a pure heart, and words that express that! - #

“If there is pure water in the well, that is what is going to come up in the bucket!”

B. Righteousness without (3-5) #

i.3) Don’t backbite - #

ii.3) Don’t do evil #

iii.3) Don’t take up a reproach – blame your neighbor #

iv.4) Disapproves of sin, honors those who fear the LORD. #

v.4b) Keeps his word, even at his own cost #

vi.5) Don’t take advantage of others! #

Matt. 22:35-40 – Jesus summed it up like this!

III. Righteousness by Christ! #

Gal. 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

A. You cannot! #

Rom. 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

B. You need Christ! #

Rom. 4:22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. 23 ¶ Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; 24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; 25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C. He Dwells with us! #

1Cor. 3:16 ¶ Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 2Tim. 1:12 For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day. 13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love wh[ß]{style=“background: transparent”}ich is in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
