Wisdom’s Plea #
Proverbs 8:1-11
Intro.
In chapters 8, and 9, the theme of the Book of Proverbs has shifted. There is no longer the phrase, “My son”. We see all the reasons and benefits of Wisdom in these next two chapters.
I. The Places (1-3) #
A. High places - (2) #
God can be observed in every aspect of nature - incredible.
Anyone who observes God’s miraculously amazing creation, must admit, - No accident!
They were not the result of an explosion,
They were not the result of evolution
If evolution, lost wings??? Monkey’s tail.
From the very mountain peaks, and even higher. (Ps 19:1-3)
The awesome wonder of all of heaven, declares that there is a God, it transcends every language!
Wisdom, cries out in creation, and is visible in the high places, and really every place.
B. Path’s (2) - #
Path - walking paths, tracts given in the way
-
“And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:” (Matthew 13:4)
Path of Radio, Internet, TV -
Christian radio, TV programs, mixed bag, but it is there.
Internet, flood the internet with Bible verses, preaching! - Church web page.
C. Gates (3) - Main entry and exit points in old cities #
Bill boards today, as you enter cities, it is not uncommon to see advertisements.
It is not uncommon to see different bill boards, relating to God!
Church signs that have many quaint sayings.
D. Doors (3) - House doors (door to door), store doors, #
We have been working on canvassing Perry with the Gospel, and we are more than ¾ of the way done!
That is Wisdom at the door!
From the peak of the mountains in verse 2, to the very door of your house! God is proclaimed!
II. The People (4-5) #
A. Men (4) - #
1. Not unto angels, or demons, or animals, it is unto men! #
God desires man to increase in wisdom, and knowledge.
Animals are programmed… fish return to the same spot to lay eggs. Butterflies, fly to Mexico! Birds fly south for the winter…. God gave them that! - no inventions
God calls to mankind (sons of man) - not just one.
God came calling to Adam after he sinned in the Garden
God called seeks after man!
B. Simple (5) - #
1. Not to prideful arrogant people, who have all the answers. #
-
Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus.
Jesus chose a bunch of fishermen, simple men, but men, that would subject themselves to Jesus Christ!
God cries to all men, but it is usually simple men that are open
C. Sinful men (Fools - 5) #
Those who have failed, clearly learned they didn’t know what they thought they knew.
1. Lost fools, full of error! #
a) Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
b) Lk 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Those who are full of themselves, don't have room for God in their
life!
III. The Purity (6-8) #
A. Excellent & Right - (6) #
No better description for the Word of God that contains true wisdom!
-
Prov. 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Excellent, very valuable, and complete.
Superior to any other wisdom, learning or knowledge!
When knowledge is laid on the foundation of the Bible, it can only grow, and get better!
Too many start with knowledge, and try to fit God in the box
Right, upholding the standard of right.
God’s Wisdom, will NOT lead you astray!
B. Truth - (7) - Fact, not a lie! #
-
John 17:17 ¶ Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Many people want to relegate the Bible to fiction, it is truth!
Throughout history, this book has been burned, banned, and yet it still stands as the TRUTH!
-
Prov. 12:22 ¶ Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Wickedness is an abomination to God, it is detested, disgusting to God!
C. Righteousness (8) - #
they are not perverse, or crooked… they are straight and narrow!
Man’s wisdom, is perverse, crooked, and wrong.
- Psa. 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.
IV. The Plainness (9-10) #
A. Clear #
They are not hard to understand!
We encourage you to read the Bible through in a year, you know why? Because you can understand it, God can speak directly to your heart. - I encourage my children to read the Bible, because, even a young person can understand the Bible!
-
2Tim. 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
The Bible is NOT difficult! - Take time to read it!
B. Right - #
This book will teach you what is right, and how to live right.
-
Prov. 15:14 ¶ The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge: but the mouth of fools feedeth on foolishness.
You know what is wrong with this world? We have gotten away from the Bible!
When you try to teach what is right and what is wrong, and it is not based on the Bible… where is the line?
V. The Plea - “Receive my instruction” (11) #
A. Option - Receive! #
It can be proclaimed, it can be preached, it can be given in every avenue to man… but if he doesn’t receive it!
B. Opportunity #
Instruction over silver,
Instruction - the act of teaching or informing the understanding in that of which it was before ignorant.
We have regular times of instruction in the Word of God!
Knowledge over gold.
Knowledge - A clear and certain perception of that which exists, or of truth and fact.
Knowing the Bible, Knowing the Word of God!
C. Wisdom is better than rubies! #
- Nothing compares to wisdom! This has been repeated
- Prov. 3:14 For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
