Warnings #

Pro 7:6-10

Intro.

Solomon here uses a story to illustrate what he has just warned about.

This very scene unfolds night after night, it is ageless, and continues to take place. You CANNOT relegate this to being old fashioned, in 2019, I can promise you this same exact scenario takes place all around the world.

Solomon here illustrates the story from a young man’s perspective, but you could reverse the rolls, and find the same to be true. The application goes both ways.

I. Simple one (7) - #

A. Principle #

A Simple one is used as someone who is ignorant, perhaps lacking education or opportunity. Someone who doesn’t know better. He also is a youth, which shows a lack of experience.

This is why it is so important to listen to those who have wisdom of years!

All the new gadgets, the internet, TV, it is just new avenues, but people are the same, and will do the same thing, on the street corner of the TV, and on the street corner of the internet!

B. Place (8-9) - #

His void of understanding is really displayed here. He is out on the street at night, and he is in a bad part of town. That spells nothing but trouble! -

  1. Prov. 5:8 Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

II. Strange woman (10- #

A. Presentation (10-11) - Portrayal, Presentation #

(v10) “attire of an harlot” - she is not dressed right!

Dress is important, it makes a statement about who you are.

The word attire is only used 4 times in the Bible:

Lev 16:4 - The Attire of a priest,

Pro 7:10 - the attire of a harlot,

Jer 2:32 - The Attire of a Bride,

Ezk 23:15 - is a description of attire that caused lust,

The way you dress, the way you portray yourself is important!

B. Portrayal #

(v10) Subtil - (means keeper), in other words,

you cannot really know her heart.

She is not sincere! Her words are flattery, not sincere.

(v11) Loud and stubborn

Matthew Henry says of her, “By her temper and carriage. She is loud and stubborn, talkative and self-willed, noisy and troublesome, wilful and headstrong, all tongue, and will have her saying, right or wrong, impatient of check and control, and cannot bear to be counselled, much less reproved, by husband or parents, ministers or friends. She is a daughter of Belial, that will endure no yoke.”

(v12) Feet abide not in her house -

Takes more interest in strangers, than those in her own house.

C. Place (12) #

In the streets - again it is late at night, as we noted earlier

Lieth in wait at every corner -

She is out hunting a precious ignorant young person!

D. Pursuit (13) #

Caught

Kissed

Impudent face - impudent - bold, shameless

E. Persuasion (14) “flattery” #

She is a Good Person - (14)

“peace offerings” - gives an appearance of religious, so as to show that no intent is wrong.

“payed my vows” - gives an appearance of a honest, sincere person.

He is a good person (15) “to meet thee”, “to seek thy face”, “I have found thee”

Temptation (16-21)

21 - Fair speech

Flattering words -

Forced him - manipulation

III. Sin (22-23) #

A. Follow #

He fell for it, hook line and sinker!

  1. James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

B. Fool! #

Ox to the slaughter

Fool to the correction of the stocks

Deadly mistake

IV. Sage Advice (24-27) #

A. “Let not thine heart” #

Don’t get pulled into that trap.

Be wise, stay away!

Don’t go out into bad areas.

Don’t just ‘hang out’ late at night.

B. Direction - #

“Let not thine heart decline to her ways”

(27) - “down to the chambers of death”

Sin always is a downward path!

“go not astray in her paths” -

Keep your eye on what is at the end of the path!

Driving a car, you should always keep an eye on what is going on ahead of you…. Helps avoid accidents

In chess you always have to think three moves ahead

Life is no game… by toying with sin, you are playing with your own life.

C. Death #

“many wounded” - clearly she would take advantage of anyone who is down

“many strong men” - Everyone wants to think they are the exception, you are not.

Samson was a man, with extreme potential. When you read the story, you are yelling at him, Samson, watch out… there is a reason she is trying to find out the secret of your strength! Her heart is not with you!

“way to hell”
