A Firm Foundation

Psalm 11 Introduction A foundation, is something that must be solid, in order to build a building that will not fail in the severe storms that life may throw at us. You will face storms.

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? 47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: 48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.

I. Feelings expressed (1-2)

Causes of temptation to question your safety.

A. Carnality

2Kings 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Faith sees what others cannot see.

B. Concern

C. Compassion

Job’s wife is often criticized for her statement, “Curse God and die.”
It probably was a statement made out of compassion!

II. Foundation shaken (3)

A. Focus on the problem

Matt. 14:30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

B. Forsaking of God's Word

When you neglect the Word of God, your thoughts will not be turned toward God.
The world, and life pushes you away from God.

C. Forgetting God is in Control

Your faith will be shaken to the very foundation, if you forget God is in control.

i.God is not surprised by anything

ii.God is always knows what to do

III. Facts to build upon (4-7)

A. The LORD is holy (4)

i.God will NEVER do you wrong!

ii.God will NEVER make a mistake

B. The LORD is high (4) “throne is in heaven”

i.Sitting in Heaven, Best seat in the house!

ii.Throne represents power

C. The LORD Heeds his children (4-5, 7)

i.Sees (4) “his eyes behold, his eyelids try”

ii.Tries (5) - the trials, grow our faith, and strengthen

1 Peter 4:12-16 - Trials fortify our faith!
