Romans 5:6

Understanding Salvation #

Romans 5:6-11

Introduction

As we continue to look at Romans, I would like us to fully understand the great salvation we have. It is not necessary to understand all of this in order to be saved, but after we are saved, it is great to look at it all, and understand better the GREAT Salvation we received!

When you bought your first car, you certainly didn't understand what you were getting! You probably didn't understand how a pump turns on, and moves the gasoline from your tank to your motor. You probably didn't understand that a battery & starter cranks that motor over. You probably didn't understand the proper ratio of gas and air mixture to get that explosion to take place inside of that engine block as the piston compressed that mixture. You probably didn't understand the gear ratio in the transmission that causes a motor that is constantly in motion to put the wheels in motion. All you knew was, how much does it cost? Does it work? do I like the color, and does the radio work?

It is not a requirement to be saved, but because we are saved, we should take an interest in what God has done for us!

I. Our Pitiful State #

  • Part of understanding our salvation is understanding where were!

A. Weakness (6) “without strength” #

1. We are powerless to save ourself #

  • No one likes to imagine himself as helpless... but in reality, we were!

    • There was no way for us to save ourself!

Is. 64:6 ¶ But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

2. We are powerless to overcome our sin! #

1John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

B. Wickedness #

1. Ungodly (6) #

  • Those that are without God are described in Romans 1:28-32

Gen. 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

2. Sinners (7-8) #

  • Not many people are willing to give their life for someones else... but if they were, you can be sure they are a good person! (7)

  • However, God in our died for us in our sinful state!

    • Lost, guilty, condemned, with no hope!

II. Our Precious Salvation #

A. Right time (6) “due time” #

1. Prompt! - God is never late! #

  • Sometimes we think God is late, but God NEVER shows up late!

    • God is always on time!

Eph. 5:16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

  • He is a timely God, He is an orderly God!

2. Planned from the beginning! #

1Pet. 1:18-20 - "foreordained before the foundation of the world"

  • Jesus was appointed before the foundation of the world to die!

3. Prophesied & fulfilled: #

Gal. 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

B. Justified (9) #

  • justified - To pronounce free from guilt or blame; to declare or prove to have done that which is just, right, proper, etc.; to absolve; to exonerate; to clear

C. Saved (9) #

1. "shall be saved" - There is wrath to come... God's #

Rev. 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

D. Reconciled (10) - Brought into friendship from a state of disagreement or enmity; made consistent; adjusted #

III. Our Powerful God #

A. Loved us in our Sins (8) #

  • commend - to represent worthy of notice, regard, or kindness,

B. Sacrifice for us (9) “justified by his blood” #

1Pet. 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

C. Rose from the dead (10) “saved by his life.” #

  • Because He lives, I can face tomorrow.
  • Because He lives, All fear is gone.
  • Because I know He holds the future,
  • And life is worth the living just because He lives.
