Forget Not #

Pro 3:1-6

Intro.

I have been taking the passages one paragraph at a time. Usually the paragraph tends to have a fluid theme that runs through it. There are many things that tie these verses together, and yet at the same time, it is necessary to treat each of these topics on their own. The depth of thought that runs through each one, certainly merits a message in and of itself. We could entitle it the “Not” series.

I. Forget not! - The Word #

A. Exercise! Learning vs forgetting! #

1. Illustrations - Use it, or lose it! #

2. Language - people learn a language, and then don’t use it, they lose it! #

3. Muscle - exercise, muscular… if you don’t exercise it, you lose it! #

4. Reading the Word of God is no different! #

5. Being familiar with it! #

6. It requires dedication, time and energy #

7. Meditating #

8. Meditation - The act of meditating; close or continued thought; the turning or revolving of a subject in the mind; serious contemplation; reflection; musing. *Websters 1913 #

(1) Meditation is NOT sitting cross legged, hands up, hum

(2) Meditation is the mulling over, continued processing.

9. Meditation in Psalm is mentioned quite a bit! #

17. You cannot forget the Bible if you meditate on it! #

B. Execute! Keep it (obey) (Loving) #

Lip service!

a) Matt. 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

a) We are to keep the Word of God in our heart!

b) Lip service looks good on the outside… but it is not real.

Fake -

a) ON a Wednesday night… in church, you probably are not putting on a show!

b) Everyone knows what a fake is! There is nothing worse than a fake!

c) Peru Generic knock-offs! Rolex watch.

(1) They aren't quality like the original!

(2) They don't last as long!

(3) If closely inspected, there are tell tale signs

(4) Outside may look really good, the inside isn't the same

a) Christianity cannot be manufactured on the exterior.

(1) The seed must be planted in the heart, it must be nurtured,
    weeded, watered, and grow from there.

Heart - keep!

a) The heart is the center of our being, we are to obey the Word of God with our whole being! - heart outward!

C. Enjoy! #

1. Length of days, long life #

a) Youth that die, yet love the Lord… perhaps they would have died younger, whose to say God didn’t give them days

b) Length of days, and long life reference of eternity!

a) Psa. 21:4 He asked life of thee, and thou gavest it him, even length of days for ever and ever.

b) John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

c) John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

2. Peace! #

a) Rom. 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

a) In the midst of troubles, trials, hardships, Christians have always been able to find that peace.

b) It isn’t found within, it isn’t found by looking outside, it is found by looking up!

(1) Spiritual mindedness gives peace.

(2) It is not in your control, it is in His! - spiritual maturity

b) Phil. 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

II. Let not! - Mercy (2) #

A. Mercy - not getting what we deserve. #

mercy - hat benevolence, mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves
Demonstrated

a) As sinners, we are deserving of eternal damnation in hell.

a) Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
