Contrast of Believer & Unbeliever #
Psalm 62:1-12
Introduction
This Psalm gives us some great truths about man that the Psalmist points out to us. Many of the Psalms relate specifically to an enemy, a circumstance, this Psalm contains great truths about mankind in general. We find mankind’s position in contrast to that of a christian, someone who has firmly placed his faith in God alone for Salvation! That phrase is abundantly clear in this Psalm.
I. Inclination of Man (1-2, 3-4) #
A. Confidence of Believer (1-2) #
1. Truly – in complete sincerity, honesty, justly #
2. He ONLY is my rock and my salvation #
Jon 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
1Tim. 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
3. Believers should have complete confidence in God. #
B. Condemnation of Unbeliever (3-4) #
1. Dislike of righteous people “How long will ye imagine mischief against a man?” #
2. Delight in deception (4) #
3. Destruction pending -3"ye shall be slain all of you" #
II. Invitation to Man (5-8) #
A. Courage of Believer (5-7) #
1. Remind yourself #
2. (6) “He only” – no backup plan… God, and God alone is the refuge #
3. “rock and my salvation” - #
- This is repeated 2, & 6
4. “he is my defence” – #
Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
B. Call to be saved (8) #
1. “ye people” – it is a proclamation! #
2. “pour out your heart before him” #
1Pet. 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
3. “God is a refuge for US” (8) not just one. #
III. Ignorance of Man (9-12) #
