Contrast of Believer & Unbeliever #

Psalm 62:1-12

Introduction

This Psalm gives us some great truths about man that the Psalmist points out to us. Many of the Psalms relate specifically to an enemy, a circumstance, this Psalm contains great truths about mankind in general. We find mankind’s position in contrast to that of a christian, someone who has firmly placed his faith in God alone for Salvation! That phrase is abundantly clear in this Psalm.

I. Inclination of Man (1-2, 3-4) #

A. Confidence of Believer (1-2) #

2. He ONLY is my rock and my salvation #

Jon 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

1Tim. 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

3. Believers should have complete confidence in God. #

B. Condemnation of Unbeliever (3-4) #

II. Invitation to Man (5-8) #

Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

B. Call to be saved (8) #

1. “ye people” – it is a proclamation! #

2. “pour out your heart before him” #

1Pet. 5:7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

3. “God is a refuge for US” (8) not just one. #

III. Ignorance of Man (9-12) #

A. Conceit of man (9) #

  • Conceit – excessive appreciation of one’s own worth
