Romans 12:10-16

Introduction

Last week, we laid a foundation for this week. “Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.” (Rom 12:9). This week, I want to teach more through a check list that we should have in our life. He wrote in the beginning of the chapter concerning presenting our bodies. He then talked about being a part of a local new testament church. Our love is to be sincere. There is a simple list that I want

  • Kitchen stuff taken care of
  • Counters clear cupboards closed
  • sinks drained
  • Trash empty
  • Slide out in
  • Antenna down
  • Awning in
  • Electrical plug
  • Black water, grey water, drained
  • Sewer line taken care of
  • Fresh water taken care of
  • Step put away
  • Wheel chocks put away
  • Safety chains attached
  • Electrical, emergency brake cord
  • Sway bars

I. Be Loving (10) #

Rom. 12:10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

A. Affectionate “Be kindly affectioned one to another” #

  • This is frequently repeated in the NT, and yet practiced so little

B. Admiration “in honour preferring one another;” #

  • It is not always easy to put others first, but it is necessary!

  • Selfishness, is the biggest problem in our society!

    • Me first, what can the church do for me? - WRONG ATTITUDE

II. Be Serving the Lord (11) #

Rom. 12:11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

A. Serving the Lord #

1. Our purpose in life! #

  • If you are serving a person (pastor), or other person, that person will disappoint you, you will lose purpose!
  • Our service MUST be rendered to the LORD!

B. Fervent in Spirit fervent – ardent, warm, earnest, excited #

1. Our strength will vary #

  • Your strength will wain, you spirit should NOT!

III. Be Praying (12) #

Rom. 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

A. Prayer enables patience in tribulation #

1. Bring everything to Jesus in Prayer! #

2. Trusting God will sustain, provide, and take care #

B. Prayer enables you to rejoice in hope #

1. When you have carried that burden to the Lord, you can leave burden free! #

IV. Be Giving (13) #

Rom. 12:13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.

A. Giving one to another #

1. Be giving #

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

B. Hospitable – the practice of receiving and entertaining guests without reward #

V. Be Blessing (14) #

Rom. 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

A. Don’t be vengeful #

B. Be a blessing! #

1. When people slander you, you do not have to explain how evil, wicked they are. #

  • Remember, God is keeping track!

Matt. 12:35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

VI. Be Sympathetic (15) #

Rom. 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

1. Joy – when something goes well for a brother, rejoice with him! #

2. Sad – When something is going difficult for a brother, be sad for them. #

VII. Be Unified (16) #

Rom. 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

1. This is critical for a church, Same mind! #

2. Condescend – never think yourself higher than another #

3. Don’t become arrogant, thinking you are better #
