Path of Life #

Introduction
We will look at this Proverbs in the categories that are presented in this Proverb. This will help us maintain a consistent message as we look at each category that is presented. I have categorized this Proverb into five categories: 1. Path (10 verses), 2. Influence (6), 3. Punishment (5), 4. Family (4), 5. Anger (2), and 6. No Category (3).
In our life, we must always make choices and decisions about the path of life we travel. We must look down the road, and see where that path will take us, and not just live impulsively based on today feelings, emotion, or perception. Have purpose in your life. Live life on purpose, and with destination. The Book of Proverbs is a great book, because it teaches a lot of practical wisdom for living life. It constantly reminds us of truths that we need to be aware of.
I. Integrity (Proverbs 19:1) #
- Integrity – Purity, genuine, moral soundness, upright.
A. Purity “walketh” (1a) #
1. Walketh… that means our testimony, and how we go about our daily life needs to be in a way that is pure. #
2. Every day you make decisions about being honest, being right. #
3. Holiness is not just a Sunday thing, it should be an everyday thing. #
B. Priority “Better” (1a) #
1. The Bible places a very high priority on integrity, living purely #
Matt. 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
C. Poor (1a) #
1. Doing what is right will cost you! #
2. It is not always easy to do what is right, and sometimes it will cost you more! #

D. Perversity (1b) #
1. Perversity is simply defined as: turned aside, distorted from right. #
2. While we associate this most often today in sexual matters, it could be any crookedness in this verse. #
3. Those that would turn people from the Word of God, and the right path! #
II. Ignorance (Proverbs 19:2-3) #
A. Harm (2a) #
1. Some are ignorant for lack of opportunity… #
- No one to teach them, no school, no parent/home,
2. Some are ignorant for lack of desire #
3. Some are ignorant because of rebellion #
4. Harmful! #
Hos. 4:6 ¶ My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
B. Hurried (2b) #
1. Rushing to error! #
2. Lack of knowledge tends to destroy your life quickly #
3. Doing drugs is just dumb… it destroys your life fast #
C. Hinderance (3a) #
1. The foolish decisions we make, are our biggest hinderance in life! #
D. Heart (3b) #
1. It becomes an issue of the heart, between us and God! #
III. Idleness (Proverbs 19:15, 24) #
A. Slothfulness (15a) #
1. Slothfulness – habit of idleness, inactivity #
2. It is healthy to have a day of rest, but we need to be careful not to fall into idleness, inactivity. #
- It is hard to get motivated if you become too inactive!
- ‘casteth into a deep sleep’
- Laziness lendeth itself to lasting laziness.
B. Suffer (15b) #
- 2Th. 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
- Simple thought… this is anti-communism.
- Communism breeds idleness, and laziness.
C. Excuses (24a) will not work #
- Hands in pockets… doesn’t plan on doing anything.
- There are people who look for any excuse to get out of work.
D. Will not eat (24b) #
IV. Intelligence (Proverbs 19:8) “wisdom” #
A. Get Wisdom (8a) #
Prov. 4:5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
Prov. 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Prov. 16:16 ¶ How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
