Romans 5:1-5

Introduction

Paul has been spent a long time throughly and clearly presenting Justification by faith. He is now going to give us a The Consequences of Justification, the Causes of Justification, the Comparison in Justification and the contrasts in Justification.

Tonight we will see clearly the blessed consequences of Justification. These should be a great encouragement to every child of God!

I. Peace with God (1) “we have peace” #

A. Claiming of peace “by faith” #

  • If it hasn’t been stated enough, or emphatically enough, it is once again clarified here: “by faith”

    Rom. 3:22, 25, 28, Rom 4:5, 11, 16

Eph. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

B. Character of peace “with God” #

Col. 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

  • alienate – estranged, withdrawn from, stranger

C. Condition of peace “through our Lord Jesus Christ” #

  • The sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary!
  • Heb. 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

II. Privilege of Access (2) “we have access” #

A. Not possible before #

Is. 59:1 ¶ Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

Jer. 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

B. Now possible! #

III. Pleasure in Hope (2-5) “we stand, and rejoice in hope” #

A. Glory in Hope! (2b) #

  • Acts 27:14-20 – A gloomy outlook!

    • The Child of God should NEVER loose hope!
    • The promises of God are sure, giving us HOPE!
  • There is something exciting about having hope!

B. Glory in Tribulations (3) #

James 1:2 ¶ My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

C. Glory in Growth (4) “experience” #

D. Glory in Assurance (5) “maketh not ashamed” #

  • God NEVER Fails!

Conclusion: - Have peace, use the Privilege, take pleasure

  2. Privilege of Access to God
  3. Pleasure in Hope!
