God’s Care for the Righteous #
Psalm 34:1-3
Introduction
This Psalm was written when David had been driven out of the country. He was forced to the land of the Philistines. Obviously, he was not welcome there, as he had killed their giant, and their hero. To help us get full context of this Psalm, let’s read the account.
1 Samuel 21:10-15
Notice in verse 10, David was fearful. It is a fearful thing to be on the top 10 wanted list of the king… and I’m pretty sure that David was number 1 on that list.
I. Exalting of the Lord (1-3) #
- David found ways to praise the Lord in the worse of conditions!
A. Bless the LORD (1) #
1. David praised the LORD at ALL times #
2. Continually – non-stop! #
B. Boast in the LORD (2) #
1. Boast on God! #
C. Be involved (3) #
1. Invited #
2. Involve others “let us exalt his name together” #
II. Experience (4-10) #
A. Look to the LORD (4) #
1. Personal experience “I sought the LORD” #
2. Prayer answered “He heard me” #
3. Problem solved “and delivered me from all my fears” #
Phil. 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
B. Look at other examples (5-7) #
1. Others looked to God – (5) #
2. This poor man (probably David) (6) #
3. God stays close by (7) #
C. Live it out yourself (8-10) #
- Vs 8 is the invitation, vs 9-10 are the experience
1. “fear the LORD” (9) #
- “his saints” – this is not an emotional fear, but a reverential fear. To be in awe of God!
2. Seek the LORD (10) #
Matt. 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

James 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
