Potential of Prayer #

Mark 11:20-24

Introduction

Last week, I started a short series of messages on the subject of Prayer. The message was entitled Power of Prayer and our text was Ephesians 6:18

^18\ ^Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; - Eph 6:18

I believe we only scratched the surface of the Power of Prayer, and I want to further expound, and I would that we can see the Potential of Prayer. What are things that can be accomplished through prayer? What things should we pray about?

Lord willing we will be in this text again, as I will not cover all this text today! I want us to see the great Potential of Prayer!

Jesus takes a spiritual things, faith and prayer, and shows, illustrates real life areas these two things can make a huge impact. He starts with a simple illustration of the Fig tree! – This is a true life account, not an illusion, not a trick, but a real tree, that was really cursed, to show to the disciples that Prayer in faith changes physical things.

I. Disasters solved #

A. Storm Calmed (Mark 4:38-39) #

1. The storm was not of their own making! #

2. Prayer changed the storm! #

B. Peter Walked on water (Matt 14:28-30) #

1. Prayer 1 – (vs 28) #

Mark 11:22 “^22\ ^And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.”

2. Prayer 2 – vs 30 “Lord save me” #

C. Doors opened (Acts 16:24-26) #

1. This was a physical jail – not spiritual #

2. They prayed! (v 25) #

II. Disease healed #

James 5:14–15 “^14\ ^Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: ^15\ ^And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.”

A. Leper cleansed (Mark 1:40-42) #

1. This man had a physical disease! #

2. This man went to Jesus and asked to be cleansed! #

3. This man was cleansed! #

1. They asked Jesus! (27) #

2. Jesus said it was according to their faith! (28) #

3. They were healed! (30) #

C. Palsy (Matt 8:5-13) – Great faith! #

III. Dead raised #

A. Jairus Daughter Matt 9:18-19, 23-25) #

B. Lazarus (John 11:41-44) #

IV. Demons cast out! - Spiritual #

A. Demon cast out! (Mark 7:25-30) #

1. She asked the Lord! #

2. Jesus cast out the demon! #

B. Jesus prays for Peter (Lu 22:31-32) #

1. Peter would be attacked spiritually #

2. Jesus prayed for him! #

C. Jesus Prayed for Spiritual Strength (Lu 22:41-44) #

I’m not suggestion tonight, that we run around and calm physical storms, or attempt to walk on water. I’m not suggesting tonight that we heal blind, sick, deaf, or even raise the dead. I’m not suggesting tonight, that we run around and cast out demons. What I am suggesting, is that we make physical, and spiritual matters to God, and ask that HE do something about the situations, because, HE IS ABLE! We are not to be glorified, but He is able to do things!
