Safety in God’s Place #

Psalm 91:1-3

Introduction

We find a most encouraging Psalm for the believer. Following God is a blessing in our life. I have said many times, “Being in the center of God’s will is the safest place to be in the world!” If God’s will is for you to be in South America, that is the safest place for you to be. If something bad happens and you are in the center of God’s will, then understand he has allowed you to go through trials to grow you.

I. Dwelling Place (1-2) #

A. Stay “dwelleth” (1) #

Psalm 46:10 “10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

2. Quietness #

B. Secret place #

1. God established a place in the tabernacle, the holy of holies! #

Hebrews 9:6–7 “6 Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service of God. 7 But into the second went the high priest alone once every year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and for the errors of the people:”

2. We are privileged to DWELL with God! #

1. Abiding (Living) in God’s shade is the best place. #

E. Shelter “my refuge” (2) #

“My refuge” – Shelter or protection from danger or distress!

F. Stronghold “my fortress” (2) #

II. Divine Protection (3-13) #

A. “Snare of the fowler” (3) Enemy #

1. “Noisome pestilence” distraction from the secret quiet place of God! #

2. Terror by night, pestilence (5a,6a) #

3. Attacks by day (5b,6b) #

B. Shield (4) #

1. God is trying to shield your life. #

Deut. 32:11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:

2. buckler – a small shield which buckled onto the arm, to protect a soldier. #

Psalm 119:11 “11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
