R&R from the LORD #
Mark 6:30-33
Introduction
I. Rest (Mark 6:30-33) #
- The disciples had just been busy traveling preaching in different villages as Jesus sent them out.
- They were relaying to him all that happened.
A. Need of rest #
1. Work, whether physical, or mental wears you out! #
2. Our bodies require rest! #
B. Mandate of rest #
1. Exemplified by God #
Gen. 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
2. Law of God! (Exodus 20:8-11) #
C. New Testament #
Matt. 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
1. The rest comes from a reliance on God! #
II. Reliance (Mark 6:33-44) #
A. Congregating of people (33) #
1. Jesus was trying to get away & rest #
2. People wanted to hear from him! #
B. Compassion of Jesus (34) #
1. Looks past his own needs – Jesus was busy (v31) #
2. Sees needs of others – “much people” #
C. Counsel of disciples (35-36) #
1. Concern for people #
2. Concern with time #
3. Carnal – lacking any spiritual quality (36) #
D. Challenge (Mark 6:37) “Give ye them to eat” #
1. They immediately dismissed it. #
2. They lacked faith! #
Heb. 11:1 ¶ Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Heb. 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Rom. 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
E. Contribution (Mark 6:38) #
1. Giving is not an option #
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
1Cor. 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
2. God expects you to give #
F. Coordination (Mark 6:39-41) #
1. Groups (39-40) (44) – 5000 men #
2. Giving (41) #
3. Sufficiency (42) – was because of God #
III. Reaping (Mark 6:43) #
A. Gathered more than they started with #
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
1. Law of sowing and reaping #
Gal. 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. 9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
