Different Perspectives #

Psalm 53

Introduction

Psalm 14 is very similar to this Psalm. Clearly, God thought we needed to look at this Psalm twice, and included it twice in the book. It is a somber Psalm.

Have you ever looked at something and tried to point it out to someone else, and they cannot see it, because they are not looking at it from the right angle? They have to move to actually see what you are looking at.

Keeping Faith #

Psalm 54:1-9

Introduction

Who are the Ziphims? - The title mentions them. We have a fascinating Psalm that is pinned to a specific time in David’s life. This was a difficult time in David’s life at best. He constantly had to be on the move, he constantly had to watch his back. He literally lived like a wild animal being hunted. Yet through it all, he maintained his sanity, faith, and life.

Mark 5:22

Jesus Restores Life #

Mark 5:22-24, 35-43

Introduction

Last week, we saw the woman that was cured of her issue of blood. However, the story of Jairus is interrupted midway through that account. Jesus had cast the demons out of the man in Gadarenes, they asked him to leave. He get’s back in the boat, and crosses the sea, to be confronted by Jairus.

Today, we consider an amazing miracle of a girl raised to life. It is the first account of a person being raised from the dead in the Gospel of Mark, that doesn’t mean it was the first person Jesus raised from the dead.

Finding Assurance #

Psalm 55:1-7

Introduction

We find the Psalmist in great distress, feeling very betrayed. He was hurt, but not by the typical enemy, who he knew was against him, but notice in verse 12-14.

12 For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: 13 But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance. 14 We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

Managing Fear #

Ps 56:3, 11 Key verses

Introduction

When I think of David, I don’t think of a fearful person. I think of a giant killer, I think of slaying the bear, the lion. I think of a great warrior, a brave king, someone who is an over comer. Yet through it all, we find that warriors, victorious, brave warriors have fear!

If they have fear (and they do), how is it managed, and how can we be a victorious overcomer as they are. David clearly lays out for us some clear steps in this Psalm that will help us.

Firmly Fixed on God #

Psalm 57:1-11

Introduction

Some Psalms, you can sense that the Psalmist is overwhelmed in his circumstances, other Psalms, you don’t see it at all. There is not a sense of being overwhelmed in this Psalm. There is not a sense of ignorance either.

We find a few things that are repeated in this Psalm. We will focus on those things this evening. Repetition is a way to emphasize something in poetry, writing, and song. All apply to this Psalm.

A Prayer of David #

Psalm 58:1-5

Introduction

As we go through the Psalms, we witness many different moods of David. As he goes through the struggles of life. We can find common ground even within our life. While we certainly do not live in the same day and age as David, life bears many similarities to his.

We have our ups, we have our downs, we have our fears, we have our trials, we have our mountain top views.

Who is God for you? #

Psalm 59:1

Introduction

It is amazing how many of the Psalms are born out of great hardship. May we ever be reminded that hard times are not without fruit.

Spurgeon “The Music of the sanctuary is no small degree indebted to the trials of the saints.”

Great trials bring great victories, and even great songs. Don’t think that a trial is worthless or vain there are great lessons to be learned in every trial and difficulty in life.

Mark 6:1

Disappointment in Ministry #

Mark 6:1-3, 1-13

Introduction

Not everything in ministry goes well. We are programmed to think that if something is off, something doesn’t go well, then we must find the fault, we must change something, we must do something different.

Walking with God, or Wandering away? #

Psalm 60:1-5

Introduction

In this Psalm, we see a clear distinction between two paths. Walking with God, or wandering away from God. In reality there is not another option. In your Christian life, you are either walking with God, or you are walking away from God!

You have seen people walk in sync, that is the way we should be with God! Are you in sync with God?
