The Messiah #
Psalm 110:1-7
Introduction
We have a short, but a great Psalm before us.
Notice the Title: A Psalm of David
The Authorship is authenticated and further established by Jesus in Matt 22:44-45
Matthew 22:44–45 —44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? (Son of David)… he is God
Some prophecies are buried deep in the proverbial depths of the passage, much like a golden nugget buried in the deep underground. However, this prophetic passage is a beautiful, large golden nugget lying on the surface of the ground!
Let's take a moment to examine this beautiful golden nugget of prophecy about Jesus.
We need to distinguish between the LORD which is all capitals because it is Jehovah God, and Lord which in this Psalm specifically would reference Jesus Christ.
John Butler puts it this way, “The psalm has God talking with God. Jehovah-God addresses the Messiah. The composition of the Godhead into different persons yet the same is a deep mystery which the human mind cannot fully understand. "

Hebrews 4:14–16 —14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

-
A great study, Melchizedek shows up in Gen 14, Psalm 110, and in Hebrews 5, 6, 7*.
-
He was a King and a priest – and represents Jesus in that position.
- Gen 14 is before the law was given, and Abraham gives a tithe to him.
-
Heb 7:1-3
-
Melchizedek shows up before the Levitical priesthood is established
-
Melchizedek “Accepted tithes” - typifies as Jesus desires an offering.
-
Melchizedek “King of righteousness” – typifies Jesus in holiness
-
Melchizedek “King of peace” – Jesus is the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

“without father, mother, descent – eternal!!! (Heb 7:3)
