Perfect Peace #

Isaiah 26:3

Introduction

Peace is something much sought after in this world. I’m not talking about world peace, I’m talking about Personal Peace. Many people are seeking after peace. Many people turn to alcohol, drugs, or something that numbs their mind to find peace. The problem with that, it is only a temporary mask for peace, when the alcohol or drugs wears off, the problems are still there.

Everyone has problems. There is no such thing as a problem free life. Everyone’s car will have a problem. Everyone’s house will have problems.

The lie – if we have a brand new car, it will not have problems, if we have a brand new house it will not have problems. That is not true! Some cars do have less problems, some houses do have less problems, but everyone has problems.

Peace – a state of quiet or tranquillity; freedom from disturbance or agitation; applicable to society, to individuals or to the temper of the mind.

We live in a world, that is anything but tranquil.

I. Author of Perfect Peace (3) #

“thou wilt keep him in perfect peace”

A. Strength of a city (1) #

  • When you consider the context of this verse, it is a song of joy!

i. Strength of a city #

ii. Strength of God #

  • His strength is shown in in the previous chapter
  • Isaiah 25:9-12

B. Salvation of God (1) #

  • A walled city is the illustration of salvation – you are inside, God’s safety walls.

i. City that is all closed up #

  • Walls and bulwarks – bulwark was a bunch of dirt piled up as a mound, and could not be penetrated.

  • Safe in the city walls!

    • It is the illustration, of the safety that you feel in a city, or country.
    • In our country, it often feels as though we are well protected…when you travel outside of America, you realize the protection our country offers.

ii. God is able to keep you safe #

  • There is something greater than the USA, and that is being a Christian… knowing complete safety!

C. Self help #

  • There are those who would omit God and try to find peace without God, I would say, you may find some similitude of peace, but you cannot have true peace without God.
  • You may find some peace in philosophy, activity, relationships, or even religion… but God is the only one that can offer true peace, perfect peace!

II. Action of Peace (3) #

“whose mind is stayed on thee”

A. Keeping your mind on Christ #

i. Stay in the Bible #

Psalm 119:165 — Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

ii. Stay in Church #

  • A good church, will focus on the Word of God!

iii. Stay around Christians #

  • Good christian friends will tell you when something is not right
  • Be humble enough to listen and examine yourself

iv. Listen to Godly Christian music – powerful help #

Colossians 3:16 —16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

v. Stay away from worldly ungodly influences #

B. Don’t focus on the problems #

i. It is difficult to not focus on the problems #

Matthew 14:29 — And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.

  • Peter’s eyes were focused on Jesus

Matthew 14:30 — But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.

  • Peter’s eyes were focused on the wind
  • If you focus on the problem, you will not have peace!

C. Trust God (Believe) #

i. Easier said than done #

Proverbs 3:5–6 —5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

III. Absence of Peace (3) #

“whose mind is stayed on thee”

  • When your mind focuses on the problems, and not the solution, you will lose peace!
  • When your trust doubts the Author and Provider of Peace, you will lose peace.

A. Should be an alarm #

  • When you are lacking peace… start looking for what is off

    • There could be a few different things…

      • Are you in the Bible? Church? Focusing on Jesus or the problem? Allowing ungodly friends to influence you? Allowing ungodly music to disrupt peace?
    • In a car, I usually have this knack of knowing there is something wrong, I can hear it, I can feel it, something doesn’t feel right, or sound right.

      • I’m not trying to find issues, I just always want to know at the first sight of a problem, that I can get it fixed, so I don’t end up on the side of the road.

B. Peace should be normal in your life #

  • When you don’t have peace, be concerned, find the problem, and get it fixed!
