1 Kings 19:19-21

Introduction

2Tim. 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

I. Seeking (19)

Matt. 7:7 ¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

A. Pursuit of Elisha “found Elisha”

i. God’s command (1 Kings 19:16b)

Matt. 13:3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;

ii. You must sow to reap!

Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

B. Productivity of Elisha “who was plowing”

i. Elisha was Working!

Prov. 20:4 ¶ The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.

ii. Elisha was Wealthy (12 yoke (pair) of oxen)

iii. Elisha was Wise – 12 yoke, plowed a lot of land

C. Prompting of Elisha “cast his mantle upon him”

i. Significant – we may not understand all the reasons

II. Submission, Surrender (20)

A. Petition “Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother”

i. Request

ii. Respect

B. Parents (love for them)
C. Promise “follow thee”

III. Statement (21)

Your walk talks, and your talk talks, but your walk talks louder than your talk talks.

A. Permanent “took a yoke of oxen, and slew them”

i. Oxen

ii. Instruments

iii. Dependence on God!

B. Public “gave unto the people”

i. Display to all

ii. Joyous occasion – he threw a party

C. Personal Service “ministered unto him”

Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
