If you are going to plant a garden, you want to
chose the location (not a shaded location, not a soggy location), the
next step would be to break up the ground. In these few chapters, Paul
has been breaking up the ground. You cannot plant a garden, if one
already exists. Once again, Paul is writing both Jew and Gentile. Both
have existing religious backgrounds, and philosophies. Paul has to
completely cut down their ideas, and turn over the dirt where their
religious garden was growing before the Gospel seed can be planted. Paul
has spent 2 chapters showing how man, both Gentile and Jew are without
excuse before God! He was cutting down what already existed there. In
these next few verses, he is about to turn the ground over, so there is
fresh dirt, and the soil is prepared to receive the seed.

Romans 3:19

Arguments for Justification

Romans 3:19-31

Introduction

Outline for Chapter 3

Paul’s Answer to Objections (Romans 3:1-8)

Paul’s Assertion of Sin (Romans 3:9-18)

Paul’s Argument of Justification (Romans 3:19-31)

In verses 19-20, Paul is recapping what has been explained for the past
few chapters. All of man is guilty before God! He has left no stone
unturned in dealing extensively with the issue of sin, the knowledge of
sin, for both the religious Jewish leaders and the Gentiles who were
ignorant of sin.

Romans 4:1

Justified by Faith, not works

Romans 4:1-8

Introduction

Paul presented Justification by faith in chapter 3, he further defends
it in chapter 4. In this chapter we will look at the fact that
Justification is by faith, not works (1-8), Justification is by grace,
not law (9-17) and Justification is by Resurrection power not human
effort (18-25).

Justification is the absolute cleaning of our account. However, it is
very clear in the beginning of the gospel, that he is not a weak
servant, but a very powerful, strong servant. While Jesus came to serve,
and be a servant, by no means does that make him weak, or lessen his
authority.

Romans 4:9

Justification by Grace

Romans 4:9-16

Introduction

In this chapter we will look at the fact that Justification is by faith,
not works (1-8), Justification is by grace, not law (9-17) and
Justification is by Resurrection power not human effort (18-25).

Once again, the central theme is going to be around Abraham. To the
Jews, he is their Father. There is no doubt, they occupy a special place
in history, the Bible, and to God. They ARE God’s chosen people. We
don’t replace that. It is not necessary to understand all of
this in order to be saved, but after we are saved, it is great to look
at it all, and understand better the GREAT Salvation we received!

When you bought your first car, you certainly didn't understand what
you were getting! You probably didn't understand how a pump turns on,
and moves the gasoline from your tank to your motor. You probably
didn't understand that a battery & starter cranks that motor over. You
probably didn't understand the proper ratio of gas and air mixture to
get that explosion to take place inside of that engine block as the
piston compressed that mixture. You probably didn't understand the gear
ratio in the transmission that causes a motor that is constantly in
motion to put the wheels in motion. All you knew was, how much does it
cost? Does it work? do I like the color, and does the radio work?

Romans 5:12

Explanation of Sin vs Salvation

Romans 5:12-17

Introduction

An Old Time preacher, Harry Ironside wrote this:

The moment a man is justified by faith he is also born of God. His
justification is, as we have seen, his official clearance before the
throne of God. His regeneration involves his introduction into a new
family. He becomes a part of the New Creation of which the risen
Christ is the Head. Adam the first was federal head of the old race.
Christ Risen, the Second Man and the Last Adam, is Head of the new
race. The old creation fell in Adam, and all his descendants were
involved in his ruin. The new creation stands eternally secure in
Christ, and all who have received life from Him are sharers in the
blessings procured by His cross and secured by His life at God's
right hand.

Romans 6:12

Deliverance from Sin

Romans 6:12-23

Introduction

As we continue through the book of Romans, we can see Paul is dealing
with “Sanctification”. We have
no real evidence, nothing to tell us about his past, so we are
speculating.

I call this extreme, because really this is a clear picture of the
extreme way sin can destroy a life completely. This man didn’t desire to
end up in this situation. Most people don’t desire to be addicted to
drugs, end up as alcoholics, or end up in prison. It is the extreme
detrimental effects of sin. It is
the first account of a person being raised from the dead in the Gospel
of Mark, that doesn’t mean it was the first person Jesus raised from the
dead.

Mark 6:54 - Tale of Two Cities

Tale of Two Cities: One Christ.

Mark 6:54-56

Introduction

The Gospel of Mark is action packed. We go from one episode, straight
into another. There is a such an amazing portrait of the Saviour written
by Mark. Jesus is portrayed as the great servant, going from one place
to another in full ministry mode.

As a waitress would go from table to table, and serve people, Jesus
travels from town to town serving people everywhere he goes. Serving
complete strangers, family, the disciples, everyone he meets, he desires
to serve them. It is quite amazing to see Jesus in that light, also
knowing and realizing He is the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords…
Jesus, in great humility serves!

Revelation 7

January 29, 2023

Revelation 7

Revelation 7:1-4

Introduction

We ended our last study on the sixth seal. As Chapter 7 opens, it is
often referred to as a parenthetical. The idea of the seals being opened
is put on pause, and this chapter now introduces us to two groups of
people. So we will look at these two groups of people and make some
notes of them.

Last week, I tied the group that is under the altar two this group
described in chapter 7. While they may both have white robes, I do think
they are two distinct groups. It does become clear that both groups are
from the tribulation period. They are not to be confused with the group
in heaven in Chapters 4-5 which in Revelation 5:9 are praising the Lamb
because he redeemed them! - That is the saved believers that have been
raptured out. This group in chapter 7, we clearly see as a group of
people who have been saved during the tribulation period.

Mark 7:24 - A Crumb of a Miracle

August 8, 2025

A Crumb of a Miracle

Mark 7:24-30

Introduction

What is a crumb? A crumb is not thought of as anything grand. Matter of
fact, we would consider them dirty, annoying, and brush them off the
table, collect them in our hand, and throw them away. No one, asks for a
box for crumbs. They are pitched without thought. We have a crumb of a
miracle here in Mark 7. But the crumb made a difference to this woman
and her daughter. This miracle is not recorded in the other Gospels. It is unique to the Gospel of Mark.

Jesus traveled quite a bit, it is estimated about 60 to 70 miles traveling. That would be up to 3-4 day trip of walking every day. The Bible doesn’t explain to us the details about the traveling of Jesus, but that is a lot of walking.

Mark 9:14 - Growing in Faith

October 5, 2025

Growing in Faith

Mark 9:14-29

Introduction

We have been following the life of Christ, and specifically his interactions with the disciples. As such, inanimate objects, such as the sea, river and mountains are described with living reactions to God’s presence. That is one of the reasons it is so poetical.

It is good to look back, and see what God has done. We have a great advantage, because we have so much historical evidence of what God has done for the nation of Israel, and for the church! God is alive and well. They didn’t have as much to look back too, but what they did have, they did look back to, and glorified God. We have much more reason to glorify God.

Psalm 117 - Prescription for Praise

April 29, 2026

Prescription for Praise

Psalm 117:1-2

Introduction

We have a short Psalm before us, but it is not without content. The words may be few, but the content is great. The Psalm may be short, but there is no shortage of content. Praise is certainly prescribed in this Psalm. It is one of the Psalms that ends in the phrase, “Praise ye the LORD” It most definitely was sung as a part of worship. It probably was a Psalm that was sung in the opening of closing of worship, and probably sung regularly. There are three notable things about this Psalm that I want to point out.

Psalm 119:89 - Preserved

September 9, 2026

Preserved

Psalm 119:89-91

Introduction

Preserve – 1. to keep or save from injury or destruction; to defend from evil. 2. To season with sugar or other substances for preservation 5. to keep or defend from corruption

This past weekend at my parents house, it has been in the family since before I was born! I remember well, my grandmother making jelly, and preserving it in jars! My mom still does some of that.. There are times I open a jar, and wonder how old it is… and it never ceases to amaze me that the jelly, is still preserved. It has been kept from decay, saved from destruction, no special care is needed, it is PRESERVED in that jar!

Mark 16:9 - The Missing Message

September 13, 2026

The Missing Message

Mark 16:9-10

Introduction

We are in the last portion of Mark. We started through the Gospel of Mark in November of 2024, and we are finally coming to a close. This marks the 51^st^ message I have preached out of the Gospel of Mark. In all reality, we could have done this in a year, but because of special services, it has extended out to almost a full 2 years.

What Kind of Mind do you have? - 2 Corinthians 4:4

August 16, 2026

What Kind of Mind do you have?

Introduction

We have been looking at what the Bible says about the mind. These questions are
different, but tread upon the same ground.

Hebrews chapter 6 is a commonly used text to teach salvation can be
lost. Could you please clarify the meaning of this passage and the
spiritual condition of the individuals who were partakers of the Holy
Ghost and fell away?

We know we are eternally secure once we are saved. But what about people
who used to claim to be saved, but now claim to be agnostic or atheist.
Were they really believers? - They never showed fruit of salvation and
even deny the existence of God. What is their eternality?
