Blessing the LORD #

Psalm 103:1-5

Introduction

We are drawing to a close of book number 4 of the Psalms. These last few Psalms close with praise to God. Many Psalms are prayers, complaints, and crying to the Lord, these are more about praise God for who He is.

I. God’s Personal Blessings - Reasons for Praise (1-5) #

• Starts off with a hearty blessing… this is not merely a lip service praise, but a praise with the entirety of his being, even down to his soul!
• A blessed NAME! (1)
    ◦ Bless his holy name… people profane his name today… but his name is Holy and Blessed!

Isaiah 9:6 — For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Majestic Praise #

Psalm 104:1-5

Introduction While our last Psalm was a Praise to the Lord for his Mercy, the entirety of this Psalm is a Praise to the Lord for his Majesty in creation! There are a lot of similarities in style between this Psalm and Psalm 103. They build to a great closing! These are powerful Psalms that are focused primarily on God! What a great focus! I cannot think of a greater place to focus our attention! • While I was studying, I think I stumbled across a golden nugget in the verse 5:

Give Thanks! #

Psalm 105:1-12

Introduction

This is a long Psalm, and the second part of it is really the history of Israel. It is a great read, and I encourage you to re-read it after church, and see what is listed that God did for Israel.

However, I want to focus on the first half of the Psalm. The first half of the Psalm is the Education, whereas the second half of the Psalm is the Example. The first half Educates us on what we are to do, where the second half of the Psalm gives us a great Example of how God worked. It stands as an excellent example because it takes the history of the nation of Israel, how God gave them their land, then God sent Joseph ahead to make arrangements (17), to be there for preparation for Israel.

A Psalm of Remembrance #

Psalm 106:1-5

We have an extensive Psalm before us. There is simply no way to cover all of it. There is an extensive amount of history in this Psalm. We encourage you to read the Bible, so you can be familiar Israel, and history, and the major events of the Old Testament.

Illustration: Have you ever saw a situation where a woman stays with a man that is abusive, and wonder why does she stay with him??! Much like God stays with us, though we are certainly undeserving.
