Building your life #

Proverbs 24:1-9

Introduction

1Cor. 3:10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

Whether you realize it or not, every day you live your life, you are adding another brick to your life. Every single day, you are constantly building this thing we call your life. God would caution you to be careful, take heed, on how you build your life.

I. Company (1-2) #

A. Be Careful (1) “guard your heart” #

i. Don’t envy them #

  • Pleasure

    • Visible – party, fun, sensual, cut loose, no restrictions
    • Not seen – consequences, guilt, single mom raising a child, death from overdose of drugs, jail

  • Riches

    • Visible – fancy house, cars, phones, tv, trip, luxury
    • Not seen – turmoil of finances, debt, crime to get money, embezzlement, fraud, not able to sleep, fear, loss of money, expensive habits require high income

  • Hollywood, movies & TV promote this! It is a lie from Satan… set to deceive you, trick you!

ii. Don’t desire to be with them #

  • If you are looking at that

B. Be Attentive (2) “evil men” desires #

i. Heart – destructive #

  • They are good at destroying people and you don’t see it.
  • They know if you see the consequences, the guilty conscience, the drug overdose, the effects of sin, everyone would run away!

ii. Lips (tongue, words) Mischief (2) #

Pro 1:10 – My son if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

II. Constructive materials (3-6) #

A. Wisdom builds (3) #

Prov. 9:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

  • Without God, there is not true wisdom!

    Ps 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

    • Many Universities, and colleges do not view God as Creator, or in many cases even existent.
    • That is why gender is such an issue…

  • Your life MUST be built around the God

B. Understanding establishes (3) #

  • Building is simple… building something that lasts, requires understanding.

Psa. 111:10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.

  • Having the Word of God is good, living by the Word of God establishes your life!

C. Knowledge fills (4) #

i. Precious riches (wisdom is most precious) #

  • Proverbs 3:13-15 clearly show that wisdom and understanding are more precious than earthly richs

ii. Pleasant riches (some riches are not pleasant) #

Matt. 6:19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

D. Wisdom Protects (5-6) #

III. Condemnation of Foolishness (7-9) #

A. Known for foolishness (7) #

i. The fool thinks wisdom is too high for him, therefore in his laziness, gives up on trying to attain wisdom. #

ii. “the gate” #

    • Place to meet
    • Place to sell,
    • Public place of deliberation (like a court)
    • Prophets would frequently speak
    • Place of honor for the respected elders of the city

iii. A Fool had NO VOICE at the gate. - Testimony #

B. Known for Mischievousness (8) #

i. Devise – to form in the mind by new combinations of ideas new applications of principles, or new arrangement of parts; to formulate by thought #

  • There are those who come up with wickedness! They think about it, and make it…
  • I love to take an idea, and improve upon it.
  • A wicked person does the same with wickedness

ii. They will carry that testimony - #

  • It sticks with you for a long time.

C. Known for sin & Scorn (9) #

i. Sin – the voluntary departure of a moral agent from a known rule of rectitude or duty, prescribed by God. #

  • Foolish thinking is sin! (Phil 4:8) tells us what to think on.

ii. Scorn – extreme contempt; disdain or derision #

  • Those who hate the Bible, God’s rule of order, they are an abomination to men.
